Originally from Patra in western Greece, Scotland has been Areti’s home since 2008. She has been involved with choirs for most of her life, first as a singer and later as an accompanist and director. A pianist and singer by training, she studied Kodaly Pedagogy and Choral Conducting at the Kodaly Institute in Kecskemet, Hungary, with Katalin Kiss and Peter Erdei. She then graduated with a MMus in Choral Conducting from Birmingham Conservatoire under Neil Ferris and Paul Spicer, and moved to Scotland to train as a secondary music teacher at Moray House School of Education in Edinburgh. Areti is now a member of the Music Department at Douglas Academy in East Dunbartonshire Council. She is also a highly regarded piano instructor, teaching at Morrison’s Academy in Crieff and maintains a private tuition practice in Callander, where she resides with her husband Euan and their two children. She boasts extensive experience in Scotland with both youth and adult choirs, from community ensembles, to working as a Kodaly Musicianship tutor with NYCoS Edinburgh area choir, Edinburgh Young Musicians, a choral coach for the National Girls’ Choir, as well as holding the Sir Alexander Gibson Fellowship of the Royal Scottish National Orchestra Chorus for two seasons in 2008-2010.

When not involved in musical pursuits, Areti enjoys the outdoors, taekwondo and face and body art, and is interested in psychology and linguistics.
